What do you do with Credit Card settlements/receipts?

Posted by Jesse Sbicca . Filed under credit card | 2 Comments

I am curious in small businesses, what do you do with the credit card settlements/receipts from customers at the end of the day?

When a patient pays with a credit card, my office prints them a receipt to give to them…Then what do you do with the signed portion and the settlement receipt that is printed out at the end of the day?

Where do you file them? How long do you hang on to them?

You keep them in your record until you receive the payment from the credit card company. What if the company looses your record, and you throw all of them then what would you do?

We keep ours bundled together by day and store them for 7 years along with all of our other banking and tax records.
